FAQs

  • BDC plans to have 6 teams. Rookie (ages 6-7), Mini (ages 8-9), Junior (ages 10-11), Senior (ages 12-18), The Girlies Adv and Int (ages 13-18).

  • Don’t worry if your child cannot make it to the audition. We will be accepting video auditions in the summer. Our teachers will record an instructional video of a dance combo, after your child learns the dance, you can send the video via google photo link to info@baydancecollective.com with the subject “Video Audition - Child full name”. Our teachers will then review the video submission and get back to you within 3 days.

  • We will try our best to give you an answer within 3 days. All communications will be via email, so please make sure you leave us with a working email.

  • Mrs. Nan will be teaching all the teams with the exception of The Girlies and the cross level piece. All I can say is the Hip-hop teacher is very experienced and has amazing choreography, so the girls who will be joining those pieces are in good hands! Rest assured, all the teachers at BDC will be going through extensive training with Mrs. Nan to ensure the best quality of education is given at all times.

  • Our team of teachers are very experienced, and again all teachers will be trained by Mrs. Nan to ensure the quality of teaching. We also have Mr. Jimmy Hao, who is a very experienced Ballet Professor from Beijing Dance Academy as our Ballet Master.

  • This depends on how many students audition, and also depends on the piece. Usually, small groups are between 4-9 students; large groups are between 10-19; lines start at 20+. However, our training classes range from 14-18 to ensure quality of teaching. Each student will all get attention from the teachers to ensure everyone is learning at a similar pace.

  • Rookies: minimum of 5 hours
    Minis: minimum of 6.5 hours
    Juniors: minimum of 7.5 hours
    Seniors: minimum of 10 hours

The Girlies (Hip-Hop/Teens): minimum of 4 hours a week

The hours include training hours, and also team rehearsals. However, this does not include hours for privates, small groups, master classes, workshops, etc.

  • The plan is to attend 3 regionals for each team. Seniors will be the most advanced team and will be attending more difficult competitions. Every team is required to attend at least 2 convention workshops (only some selected teams will compete, this is up to teacher’s discretion). All competitions and convention dates will be given out at the beginning of Fall semester to give all participants ample notice.

  • Mrs. Nan and her team of teachers will be evaluating students based on their skill level, commitment, parent cooperation, and the student’s willingness to compete as a solo/duet/trio dancer. It is extremely nerve racking to compete as a soloist, and most soloists have a hard time overcoming that fear. For BDC, we want to prepare the student both physically and mentally to combat the fear. So if the child shows readiness at any time, the teachers will approach parents about the possibility of solos/duets/trios. Please understand the priority for solos will be given to the most trained dancers first, and from the oldest dancers to the youngest dancers. The goal is to encourage all the younger dancers to be more committed and train harder.
